Step 1: This November,
Finish Your Novel Together
Whether it’s your first draft, your final revision, or anywhere in between, let’s kick off National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) with a clear framework on how to write a novel and complete your manuscript.
Plus, every day during November, you’ll receive a 1-hour “Write With Me” video session, where I’ll be writing the final revision of my debut novel, The Shadow Caster. Let’s make real progress on your daily word count… together!Step 2: Demystify the Agent
Learn what it takes to submit your novel to agents. I’ll break down the materials you’ll need to query a literary agent, strategies for finding the right agent for you, and how to play the numbers game. Plus, I’ll explain what to expect when you get signed and what should be in your contract.Step 3: Query Strategically
Make a first and lasting impression that increases your chances of getting manuscript requests from agents. Write a query letter that not only tells the story of your book but also sells you as a marketable author. Also learn how to write a proper synopsis and author bio. And just know, you’ll need multiple versions of each.
Each lesson will contain a video lecture, slides, and PDFs sent to your inbox. -
This course is for anyone who wants to write and pitch a fiction book to a literary agent in pursuit of traditional publication.
Whether you’re writing fantasy, horror, romance, literary, thriller, middle-grade, or YA, the same rules apply and I’m going to tell you what they are. There’s a ton of great advice out there for pitching non-fiction, but we’re focusing on fiction in this course. Also, there is a ton of great opportunity in self publishing, but I recommend you try the traditional publishing route first.

I’m offering this course for free because I spent years writing my novel, The Shadow Caster, and even longer submitting to agents.
I’m also a filmmaker and have made many online courses in the past for universities like Columbia. So, after I finally landed my literary agent using all this information, I figured… “Hmm, if I have all the skills to make an online course, why not make one on this super long writing journey I’ve been on and hopefully help other writers?”
And I ended up loving making this course! I’m super proud of it and think it’s chock full of useful information for anyone trying to write a book and seek an agent. -

I’ll be honest—writing and pitching a novel is hard. So hard, it can feel like groping around in the dark.
But with the right support and knowledge, we can bring your story out of the shadows and into the light.I wrote a novel, pitched it, and landed my dream agent who is representing my debut, The Shadow Caster.
It wasn’t easy, but I’m proof it can be done. Now it’s your turn.
Alexis Aurigemma is an author, 2x Emmy Award-winner, and lead singer of the anime cover band Otaku Ongaku. She has a decade of experience as a producer, editor, and writer for narrative film, documentary, news, sports, you name it. Her husband jokes her headstone will read, “Here lies Lex, she made one of everything.”
Luckily, this isn’t her first online course. In fact, she has made many for Columbia University.
Now, her debut novel, The Shadow Caster, proclaims that no one should live in the shadow of another, that we must share the light and inspire others to shine.
