Writing in the Shadows: Full Course (Lessons 1, 2, 3)
INSTANT ACCESS: Writing in the Shadows: Full Course (Lessons 1, 2 & 3)
Lesson 1: Finish Your Novel Together
Whether it’s your first draft, your final revision, or anywhere in between, let’s make every month National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) with a clear framework on how to write a novel and complete your manuscript.
In Lesson 1 we will cover how to:
- Structure Chaos into Story
- Build Your World
- Develop Memorable Characters
- Commit to a Writing Discipline
Lesson 2: Demystify the Agent
Learn what it takes to submit your novel to agents. I’ll break down the materials you’ll need to query a literary agent, strategies for finding the right agent for you, and how to play the numbers game. Plus, I’ll explain what to expect when you get signed and what should be in your contract.
In Lesson 2 we’ll cover:
- Some hard truths to hear
- Materials for submission
- Finding the right agent for you
- How to submit and follow up
- Timeline for submissions
- What to do when you finally hear “yes”
Lesson 3: Query Strategically
Make a first and lasting impression that increases your chances of getting manuscript requests from agents. Write a query letter that not only tells the story of your book but also sells you as a marketable author. Plus, learn how to write a proper synopsis and author bio. And just know, you’ll need multiple versions of each.
In Lesson 3 we’ll cover:
- How to write a query letter
- How to write a synopsis (long and short)
- How to write an author bio
- How to write additional pitch materials
Each lesson will contain:
A 1-hour video lesson on the lesson topic
A video transcript for easy reading or note-taking
A monthly curated resource list of books, blogs, and insider tips
Writing/pitching prompts to keep your writing focused
Slides, PDFs, and Spreadsheets to help keep you organized
5 bonus videos to help you bust through writer’s block
